ANNUAL ACTIVITY REPORT FOR THE YEAR-2013-14
NATIONAL IODINE DEFICIENCY DISORDERS CONTROL PROGRAMME (NIDDCP)

Background

The National Iodine Deficiency Disorders Control Programme (NIDDCP)started in our state sicne December-1989.It is a 100% Central Plan Scheme

Aim of the Programme

The aim of the Programme is to prevent� Iodine Deficiency Disorders (IDD) like the incidence of Goitre, still-birth, abortion, physical and mental disorders, cretinism and deaf mutism etc. in the state and to bring down to IDD prevalence Rate below 10%.

Policy

Complete Ban on sale & manufacture of non-Iodised salt for human consumption in Orissa vide Notification No.12544/dt.18.10.2001.

Majoy Activities

The Global IDD Prevention Day has already been observed in state Headquarters i.e. at Bhubaneswar on 30.10.2013 instead of 21.10.13 due to Phailin.It has also been observed at district level
For continuance of the programme along with establishment of one IDD Monitoring Laboratory in the State and it has been proposed for establishment of the said Laboratory during the year-2014-15.However presently salt samples are being tested at State P.H.Laboratory,Bhubaneswar for iodine content.

NATIONAL PROGRAMME FOR PREVENTION AND CONTROL OF FLUOROSIS (NPPCF),

National Programme for Prevention and Control of Fluorosis (NPPCF) is being implemented in a phased manner in 3 districts of Odisha namely Nayagarh, Angul and Nuapada since 2008-09 under the Director of Public Health,Odisha, the Deputy Director, IDD& Food Safety, monitors and supervises� the NPPCF Programme in the state with the following Objectives.

  1. Capacity Building for prevention, diagnosis and management of Fluorosis Cases
  2. Comprehension management of Fluorosis cases, the selected areas including treatment, surgery, rehabilitation.
  3. Health education for Prevention & Control of Fluorosis cases.
  4. In this programme various survey and resurvey of Fluorosis cases have been done.
  5. Training of Medical and paramedical staff have been done at three districts.
  6. The main mamanagement of Fluorosis is includes supply of the defluoriated water as preventive measure and medical and surgical management for persons affected with fluorosis is available at district level.
